Understanding childhood fever & illness
Children may need medical assessment for fever, feeding difficulties, dehydration, cough or other symptoms. The child's age, general appearance and medical history are important when seeking appropriate evaluation.
Questions to ask at an appointment
- What is the child's age and when did the symptoms start?
- Are there changes in feeding, urine output or activity?
- What vaccination or previous medical records should I bring?
When to seek urgent medical attention: Fever in a baby younger than three months, difficulty breathing, seizures, severe drowsiness or signs of dehydration requires urgent medical advice.
